One of the core activities of AER and its member regions is to connect Europe with citizens. As we are facing a difficult time in terms of knowledge regarding Europe and its future, AER is putting effort in developing concrete actions in order to facilitate the citizens’ wider involvement in the current debates. Our engagement in the EU funded project Road to the Future as well as the active participation to the Democracy Alive festival represent strong initiatives in this direction.
Synergetic with our activities, the European Institutions themselves play a key role in making Europe more understandable and relevant.
In this context, the Europe for Citizens Programme is an important instrument aimed at getting citizens to play a greater part in the development of the European Union. By funding schemes and activities in which citizens can participate, the Programme is promoting Europe’s shared history and values therefore fostering a sense of ownership on EU developments.
Measure Civil Society Projects
Within the above mentioned Programme, the Measure Civil Society Projects opened a call for project proposals on 2019! It aims at supporting projects promoted by transnational partnerships and networks that directly involve citizens, therefore providing them an opportunity to actively participate in the European policy making process.
Projects should aim at stimulating and organising reflections, debates or other activities related to the multi-annual priority themes of the Programme and propose practical solutions. They should actively involve a large number of citizens in their implementation setting the basis for long-lasting networking between many organisations active in the field.
A Civil Society Project must include at least two of the following types of activities:
- Promotion of societal engagement and solidarity: activities promoting debate/campaigns/actions on themes of common interest in the framework of the rights and responsibilities of the Union citizens and making the link to the European political agenda and policy making process.
- Gathering of opinions: activities aiming at gathering the individual opinions of the citizens favouring a bottom up approach (including the use of social networks, webinars, etc.) and media literacy.
- Volunteering: activities promoting solidarity among Union citizens and beyond.
