The Assembly of European Regions (AER) pays tribute to Gérard Baloup, who passed away on 2nd May. A strong supporter of the regional cause, Mr Baloup played an active role in the creation of AER, to which he then applied his experience and networks as a councillor for many years.

A confirmed European, Gérard Baloup fought throughout his life for regions to secure the place they deserve in the construction of Europe.

A former director of the Council of Europe, Mr Baloup was also one of the initiators of the creation of the Assembly of European Winegrowing Regions (AEWR) and contributed to the establishment of the Working Community of the Pyrenees (CTP).

Our sincerest wishes go to Mr Baloup’s family during this difficult time.
