European local and regional authorities (LRAs) are responsible for territorial management and environmental policy implementation. The European Earth Observation programme COPERNICUS can provide an effective support in this respect thanks to the data provided by the Sentinel satellites. However, this opportunity is not always fully understood or readily exploited.

AER partner NEREUS (Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies) and the European Space Agency (ESA) have joint forces for improving Copernicus uptake among Local and Regional Aministrations, organizing workshops across Europe. The Azores, Lombardy and Bavaria hosted thematic discussions in order to familiarize LRAs with Sentinel-based potential applications. What are the roadblocks to Copernicus uptake among LRAs? What are the useful actions which can be taken to overcome them? The results of this project will be shared with the audience by representatives of Regional Administrations.

A moderated debate in Brussels (European Parliament) on Tuesday 28 June will enable politicians, representatives of the European institutions, the space and the non-space community to discuss further these matters. The event will be followed by a networking cocktail.

Members of AER are kindly invited to attend in order to better understand how Sentinels can support them in better tackling societal and territorial challenges. Registration is mandatory and maust be made at this link.
