The AER Bureau, in its meeting in Strasbourg (Alsace-FR) on 22 April 2015, took a bold decision to set AER in a new direction. Bureau members acknowledged that AER has played a pivotal role over the past 30 years for regions in Europe and has quite largely met if not exceeded its initial objectives:
– Representing the voice of regions on European level and;
– Promoting interregional cooperation.
The organisation has evolved since 1985, meeting new needs and adapting to its socio-political and economic environment. This constant evolution is critical for AER to remain the voice of regions in Europe and beyond. The Bureau adopted the main principles of the document “Changing AER for the 21st Century” and a consultation period is now open to allow all members to submit their comments and proposals on the future structure before a debate and vote at the General Assembly.
We invite members to contact the secretariat for more information on the consultation process.
