One of the highlights of the AER Committee 3 plenary meeting in Dnipropetrovsk (UA) on 25 April was the nomination of the future Committee President. Ms Sonja STEEN from Nordland (N), former President of Sub-Committee ‘Youth’, has been unanimously nominated.

Combating school drop out will be one of the main topics that Sub-Committee ‘Education’ will work on over the coming years. Following the creation of the working group, in which interested regions can still participate, members decided to submit a project proposal under the “Leonardo da Vinci” Programme of the European Commission.

Sub-Committee Youth will focus on youth participation in democratic life, with the launch of a political report, led by Lila MERABET, from the Alsace region (F). The next edition of the Most Youth Friendly Region award (MYFER) will seek to underpin this topic with examples of best practice from the European regions.

The AER Conference “Boosting interregional cooperation in the context of the Eastern Partnership” that took place following the plenary meeting of Committee 3 is one of the examples of the outcomes of the work of Sub-Committee “International Cooperation”.
