For the past few months, AER has been working hard with partners to get the project European Youth Together: Road to the Future on its feet. Consider this your personal invitation to see it take flight.
The project will launch the “I Choose Europe” campaign to engage youth ahead of the European elections in Paris on 16 March, as part of a large-scale youth event: Headquarters – the Festival of the Engaged Youth in Europe (“Quartier Général, le festival des jeunes engagé.e.s en Europe.”)
What’s it all about?
Headquarters, organised by our partners Animafac, will gather more than 2 000 participants from Europe and all over France for a convivial and festive day with an eclectic program imagined for and by engaged youth, including: a “village of associations”, conferences, debates, workshops, concerts, radio shows and more!
The common theme of the day? Engagement and Europe! An open and supportive Europe in which thousands of committed young people participate on a daily basis, by acting in their territories, and who have an impact on the life of the continent.
In the context of the European elections in May 2019, we want to show that through associative projects, engaged young people take into their hands and concern themselves with the challenges of today’s Europe: environment, climate, migrations, but also the fight against discrimination, international solidarity, etc.
The start of something big…
Participants in the “I Choose Europe” Youth Exchange will take part in the event as the cap to a week of learning and energy-building for European-oriented activism. All day, the Road to the Future team will also be on the scene, running workshops, providing information about the campaign and hearing what young people have to say about the future of Europe. As night falls, the big moment will come when we launch the “I Choose Europe” campaign with a boom.
The months following will see hundreds of young people around Europe come together to engage in local debates. Some will even travel across Europe, visiting these debates in an international bus tour. Online, partners will encourage young people to go to the polls and make their voices heard. European youth will also be given an online platform to share their thoughts on the future of Europe, and their ideas will be communicated to future European leaders through a youth manifesto.
Save the Date!
The event will be free and open to the public. It will take place Saturday 16 March 2019, from 11:00am to midnight at Ground Control, 81 rue du Charolais – 75012, Paris, France. If you have any questions, please contact the project unit at AER.
We hope that this event in the City of Lights will help illuminate the path to a brighter future for Europe.
