SEED European Silver Economy Awards

Who?

SEED is led by empirica GmbH (DE) and AER is in the Consortium which also consists of:
• AGE Platform Europe (BE)
• City of Tampere (FI)
• European Connected Health Alliance (UK)
• Municipality of Ljubljana (SI)
• P.A.U. Education (ES)
• Province of Noord-Brabant (NL)
• Region of Biscay (ES)

What?

‘Supporting the recognition of the Silver Economy in Europe in the Digital era’ is designed to launch the first European-level award scheme rewarding innovative solutions for better quality of life of the elderly. The project mobilises a wide range of key stakeholders across Europe such as ERRIN and ECHAlliance. The European Covenant on Demographic Change and an EU high-level Jury will participate in the evaluation process.
This scheme will be sustained after the duration of the project through developing a viable sponsoring concept and business model which will be used for the next editions of the award.

When?

SEED is a Coordination and Support Action under H2020. The project started on 1st October 2016 and will finish in September 2018. Currently, the high-level jury has been set up, thus, the first call for applications has been launched. Application is available until 15 November 2017 and the first award ceremony will be organised in May 2018.

Why?

This project is for awareness-raising on highlighting the opportunities of the European Silver Economy. Population over 50s affects policy decisions and represents a large and growing segment of the consumer market. The Awards will be for rewarding ICT related products and services targeting a better life of senior citizens in all sectors, namely:
• Housing, Outdoor spaces and Buildings
• Mobility, Tourism and Leisure
• Health & long-term care
• Wellbeing, prevention & self-care
• Civic & Social participation, Communication and Information
• Employment, education & training
• Consumer Goods and Services.

What is AER’s role and how to get involved?

AER contributed to Deliverables D1.1 and D1.2 on the 1st and final version of the Consolidated Award concept, both led by empirica, by Review of existing award schemes. This task was to inform the SEED Consortium on e.g. opportunities for cooperation with existing schemes, useful practices that can potentially be learned and bet taken up for the purposes of SEED.
Currently, AER also contributes to Deliverable D2.6 on Award scheme selection panels and EU jury guidelines, led by AER, by developing the award process and jury manuals for both selection panels and the final EU high-level jury. These manuals will set confidentiality rules and how to proceed with each selection steps.
