Michèle Sabban, President of the Assembly of European Regions (AER), will visit Poland at the occasion of the 22nd European Economic Forum, taking place from 4 to 6 September in Krynica-Zdroj. AER is a partner of the Institute for Eastern Studies, an organiser of this Forum gathering each year over 2000 guests from 60 countries, including EU representatives, Prime Ministers, Presidents and representatives from private companies.
Highlights:
Tuesday 4 September
- Meeting with the Presidents of the Polish regions. Michèle Sabban will go with them through the common projects which can be carried out in Europe by the regions, mainly in the field of economic development.
- Intervention in the debate “Yes, they can! Women in the Struggle for Freedom, Democracy, Peace and Tranquility”, together with Michelle Bachelet, Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and Bernadette Segol, General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation.
Wednesday 5 September
- Private meeting with Elzbieta Bienkowska, Polish Minister for Regional Development. They will discuss the state of play of negotiations regarding the next EU cohesion policy and the challenges of the EU’s Eastern Partnership, most notably in the framework of interregional cooperation. They will also talk about AER’s action in Tunisia, the situation of which is being closely followed by European citizens and governments.
- Mrs Bienkowska and Sabban will open the Forum of the Regions, together with Marek Sowa, Marshal of the Małopolskie Region and Zygmunt Berdychowski, Chairman of the European Economic Forum, and will take part in the debate dedicated to “Regional Policy as a Factor of Integrated Development Within Europe 2020 Strategy”.
