Clean Energy for all Europeans: Call for applications

Call for applications and sessions! From 19 to 25 June 2017, the EU Sustainable Energy Week is taking place in Brussels for its 12th edition. It is supported by a series of side events across Europe throughout May and June. The Assembly of European Regions would like to recommend this event and invite members to participate and get involved in such stimulating environment.

The theme of this year is “Clean Energy for all Europeans“ and there are three ways to take part in it:

-Apply to organise a session at the EUSEW Policy Conference in Brussels, the Europe’s largest conference dedicated to sustainable energy policy issues. Applications have just been launched.

-Nominate your project or initiative for an EU Sustainable Energy Award, for which shortlisted initiatives will have pride of place at the EU Sustainable Energy Week Conference.Applications have just been launched.

-Set up an Energy Day, joining hundreds of activities engaging citizens and energy stakeholders in helping to build and strengthen the Energy Union. There is no application procedure, just few guidelines to follow and get started.

In whatever initiative you would like to take part, there’s all the support you need. in EUSEW website you can find promotional material, information and advice.

Lead the sustainable energy transformation! But don’t leave it too late – the calls for Policy Conference sessions and Sustainable Energy Award nominations close on 3 March 2017.

AER Letter of Condolences to the Government and People of Belgium

After the tragic events that occurred in Brussels, the AER President Dr Hande Özsan Bozatli has addressed a letter to Mr Charles Michel, Prime Minister of Belgium.
In this letter she conveys the condolences to the families of the victims and to the Belgium people and underlines, sadly once again, that it is important for Europeans to stand strong for the values they believe in: freedom, democracy and justice.

“On y va – auf geht’s – let’s go!” is open for applicants

The ideas competition “On y va – auf geht’s – let’s go!” aims to support active citizenship in Europe and projects which benefit the community. The award is a recognition of this involvement, but at the same time it is a way to encourage the project initiators to develop and expand their activities with partners from other European countries. It is a Robert Bosch Stiftung programme, run jointly with the Deutsch-Französisches Institut (dfi), which acts as project coordinator.

“On y va – auf geht’s – let’s go!“ is looking for teams of 3 partners, one from Germany, one from France and one from another EU country to carry out a charitable and voluntary project together. The second round of entries closes on March 31st 2016,  for projects starting between June 1st 2016 and November 30th 2016.

Are you involved in a Franco-German project and wish to extend the cooperation to include a third European partner?

Do you live in an EU-member state and want to realize a project with French and German partners?

Do you want to vote for your favourite On y va –auf geht’s – let’s go!” project to win funding?

If so, “On y va – auf geht’s – let’s go!” is just right for you and open to receive applications!

The funding must be used for activities relating to international cooperation (e.g. exchange visits, joint events and publicity). The highest possible award is € 5000.

Visualizing Energy 2016: getting involved!

Revolve Media, a communications agency fostering cultures of sustainability, is launching its annual exhibition on the energy transition, within the EU Sustainable Energy Week (13-17 June 2016).

From the capital of Europe to regional and European integration to the EU Energy Union, Revolve’s annual Visualizing Energy photo exhibition showcases the projects that are leading the energy transition towards a cleaner future. Visualizing Energy highlights workers in action on different renewable energy and energy efficiency projects around Europe and beyond.

Dubrovnik welcomes Brussels Airlines!

Brussels Airlines, a member of the AER Business Community is offering a new route to the AER member region of Dubrovnik from this summer!

This route will be connecting Brussels and Dubrovnik in an under 2,5 hour flight. Dubrovnik, located in the south of Croatia, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.

This is a great occasion to discover a beautiful region and the city of Dubrovnik, deeply marked by its history and the war in 1991 during which many buildings were bombed and consequently rebuilt. The city is considered to be an open air museum due to its medieval fortifications.

Presenting the County of Karlovac (HR)

Karlovac County is located in central Croatia. It is the traffic link between continental and coastal Croatia and also the hub of modern highway connecting Central Europe to the Adriatic Sea. On the West it boards with the Republic of Slovenia and on the East with Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It combines a number of natural beauties: mountain peaks Kapele on south, wooded hillsides of Petrova and Zumberak hill in the southeast and north; central green karst plateau of Kordun, through which beautiful rivers as Kupa, Korana, Mreznica and Dobra flows and fruitful valley of Pokup on the North east.

Rich and historical heritage, from prehistoric ruins of Japoda and Kolapijan tribes, ancient Rome remains, Croatian medieval fortress (Dubrovac near Karlovac, Ogulin, Modrus, Slunj, Cetingrad, Ozalj, Novigrad…), monasteries and churches, roads and bridges… to contemporary architectural and artistic creativity.

European Capital of Culture 2015: Welcome to Mons (Wallonia-BE)

walloniaSince 2002, Mons has been the cultural capital of Wallonia (BE). A city with a stunning amount of historical and cultural heritage, Mons will write a new chapter of its history on 24 January 2015 by becoming European Capital of Culture. The event will start with a ceremony that already promises to be spectacular, with phosphorescent dragons, aerial acrobatics and many more surprises.

The city of Mons has been concocting a rich programme for several years. The aim is to bring together for this project, all the ideas and effort of all people, including those from further afield than Mons. Already today the programme is copious and the festivities promise to be mouth-watering and innovative: 100 projects, 14 partnering towns and cities, 23 institutions and… thousands of participants and visitors.

Discover the Regions 4 Green Growth project in video!

The Regions4GreenGrowth INTERREG IVC project is an initiative of 13 EU regions with high sustainable energy ambitions that are committed to identifying, exchanging and transferring effective regional policy instruments and mechanisms to improve access to finance for sustainable energy projects and speed up investments. The project kicked off in early 2012 and can already boast impressive results, including 5 Regional Peer Reviews, 21 good practices, a Master-Class for the transfer of knowledge among partners, and various dissemination events. AER meets the European Press Clubs

On 18-19 April 2013, the AER Press and Communications team attended in Brussels the annual congress and general assembly of the European Federation of Press Clubs. On that occasion the Brussels Press Club started its one-year presidency of the Federation. New applicant members were welcomed: Kiev, Jerusalem, Lille and The Hague.

This event was a lobbying opportunity for AER towards the presidents and directors of press clubs from all over Europe, as well as some Brussels based journalists. Following the general assembly, AER visited the new headquarters of Euronews in Brussels. Decision was taken to meet soon with its Chief of office to see what common projects could be implemented.

AER promotes Albania region of Lezhe in Brussels

On 21 and 22 of March 2013 AER organised together with the region of Lezhe from Albania the “Lezhe Days in Brussels” with the aim of promoting the region among Brussels representatives and of finding good partners and contacts to get assistance in setting up a regional development agency in Lezhe.

For this purpose, the chairman of Lezhe regional council Pashk Gjoni, together with his team, presented the economic and touristic potential of the region of Lezhe and invited afterwards all participants to a cocktail reception offering traditional Albanian food from Lezhe region. Guest of honours included H.E. Mimoza Halimi, Ambassador of Albania to the European Union and H.E.Mr. Ilir Tepelena, Ambassador of Albania to Belgium as well as other representatives from European regions, the European Commission and UNDP. The second day focused on bilateral meetings with representatives from the regions of Istria (HR) and Catalunya (E) discussing concrete cooperation possibilities and exchanging information on how to best set up the regional development agency. As a result, further visits and exchanges between those regions and the region of Lezhe are planned.

AER and Hungarian counties meet Johannes HAHN

On 13th February 2013, Dr. Roland MENGYI, President of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Government and Co-President of the Hungarian National Association of County Governments (MÖOSZ) met, together with AER President Michèle SABBAN, the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes HAHN. The meeting, initiated by Mr. MENGYI and set up by AER, focused on the new organisation of the territorial sub-national government in Hungary and its role in managing and implementing the Structural Funds as of 2014-2020. President MENGYI explained this new set-up, stressing that Hungarian counties wish to play a greater role in the management and decision-making process. Mr. HAHN assured President MENGYI and AER President SABBAN that his team will make sure that all partners are included in the preparation and execution of the Partnership Agreements. He also underlined the need for Member States to respect the principle of multi-governance in this regard.

AER assists Dnipropetrovsk (UA) in European Parliament’s hearing

On 30 January 2013, AER contributed to the organisation of a hearing in the European Parliament on the characteristics and priorities of the Dnipropetrovsk region (UA), which was presided over by MEPs Gabrielle Zimmer (DE), Miroslav RANSDORF (CZ) and Jaromir KOHLICEK (CZ). From the Ukrainian side, Vice-Prime Minister Olexandr VILKUL introduced the hearing giving an overview on the recent activities in Ukraine regarding regional development and decentralisation and then passing the floor to the other representatives from Dnipropetrovsk region who informed participants about the energy efficiency projects, the role of local government, and environmental aspects. Pascal GOERGEN, AER Secretary General, emphasised the important role of interregional cooperation and informed participants that AER is ready to assist regions in their cooperation efforts.
