On 14 and 15 November 2016, the “When Space meets Agriculture” workshop will be held in Matera, Italy by NEREUS and the Basilicata Region, in collaboration with Consorzio TeRN, and with the support of COPA, COGECA, and the ERIAFF network.
This workshop aims at promoting a better understanding of the significance and potential of Europe’s space systems, Copernicus and EGNOS/Galileo, for the agricultural sector. It will introduce Rural Development Programmes of selected NEREUS regions, and explore opportunities to set synergies for the development of space applications for the agriculture sector. Moreover, it will present the main strands of the European Agriculture Policy, and, more generally, link the space community to the agriculture community.
Part of the workshop falls under the EU framework for Rural Development Programmes. A session in the workshop will focus on how regions should tackle one of the six common EU priorities: “fostering knowledge transfer and innovation in agriculture, forestry and rural areas” using space technologies. In addition, a dedicated brokerage event will enable matchmaking between participants, through bilateral meetings scheduled in advance.
The target audience of the event includes farmers, policy makers, regional administrators, entrepreneurs, and researchers in both the agriculture and space sector.
AER members are kindly invited by NEREUS to attend the “When Space meets Agriculture” workshop. More information can be found here.
