An Electoral General Assembly on the occasion of the AER 40th Anniversary
The 2025 AER General Assembly in Maribor (Eastern Slovenia) will mark the election of the new political leadership of the Assembly of European Regions (AER), including its Presidency, Executive Board and Political Bureau.

About the AER Executive Board
The AER Executive Board prepares the work and all the decisions of the General Assembly. It is responsible for the management of the AER and charges the Secretary General to implement its decisions. Between assemblies, it is the highest authority of AER. It is composed as following:
- The AER President
- The AER Treasurer
- 7-13 AER Vice-Presidents, with portfolios and assignments defined by the Board
How to apply to the AER Executive Board
The nominations for each position can be submitted by full members of the AER via email to nominations2025@aer.eu by May 18, 2025.
The nominees must hold a regional mandate at the moment of the application and present their credentials and motivation in a cover letter and CV.
Current members of the Executive Board who wish to stand for re-election must highlight their ongoing role in the application.
The positions have a two-year mandate and their holders may be re-elected for three times.
Each Executive Board member have the right to appoint a seconded Officer who will work towards all tasks linked to the delegate’s duties (speech writing, drafting answers to letters, drafting contributions to communications, preparing the logistics of trips, etc) in collaboration with the secretariat.
About the AER Political Bureau
The AER Bureau consists of the members of the Executive Board and two representatives and two alternates per State represented within the AER. The Bureau is the primary political voice of AER (art. 7, AER Statutes).
The deadline for submitting applications for AER Political Bureau was extended to 30 May 2025.
About the AER Election Committee
The AER Election Committee will, for the entirety of its mandate, actively inform and encourage members to apply for positions within AER. It will prepare for the elections at the General Assembly by screening the competences and requirements associated to the open positions and make proposals for candidates. (art 10, AER Statutes).

The AER Elections will take place at the General Assembly on 18 June 2025 in Maribor, Eastern Slovenia. The event will be in-person only.
