The Assembly of European Regions is proud to present its annual Activity Report 2023.
The theme of this year’s report is “Regions Skilled for the Future“, an expression of AER’s commitment to supporting its member regions in localising and delivering upon 2023 as European Year of Skills, a flagship initiative launched by the European Commission in November 2022.
The cover page of the report, designed by Habile Studio, makes readers reflect on the urgent need to bridge the skill mismatch hampering European regions’ growth. It illustrates the impact of a permanent 10% reduction of the indicator of skills mismatch in regions whose level of mismatch is relatively high.
The period January 2023 – December 2023 was action-packed, and inspired by the AER’s longstanding commitment to training, up-skilling, and re-skilling European regions for the present and future challenges.
The Summer Symposium – General Assembly and Bureau meeting in Barcelona was an example of the AER’s intergenerational engagement in bridging different experiences, practices, and priorities. As President Berntsson passed the baton to Albert Castellanos Maduella, State Secretary for Business and Competitiveness of Catalonia, the AER reiterated the importance of offering a political, cross party space where regions can connect, get empowered and learn from each other.
