Confronted by the crisis which affects Europe as a whole, Regions must take up the challenge and act as a true driving force to make proposals and impulse new policies at regional level. Their current economic difficulties should not prevent them from fully exploiting their strengths and potential. European Regions must work together in order to bring trust back to their citizens, invest in the future and open up to Europe and the rest of the world, in order to initiate new public policies and mobilise their territories. European legislation is mainly implemented at local and regional levels and the regional policy’s budget is the second budget of the European Union (35% of the EU budget).
