As AER President, Dr Hande Özsan Bozatli wants to improve the dialogue between Regions across Europe and beyond. She has been working hand in hand with European and International institutions showing that Regions, as major actors in designing and implementing fair and effective public policies, are crucial partners. Regaining the trust of European citizens in public action, especially that of young people, is also a key concern for Dr Özsan Bozatli and has been central in her activities.
Born on 23 September 1960 in Kastamonu, Turkey, Dr. Özsan Bozatli trained as a Medical Doctor and became a specialized Dermatologist. In 2009 she became Vice-President of Istanbul Special Provincial Council and President of EU and International Relations Committee. At the same time she became Member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. Hande Özsan has been active as member in AER since 2007. Her active engagement led to her election as President of AER’s Committee on Culture, Education, Youth and International Cooperation. In May 2013 she has been elected President of the Assembly of European Regions.
