banner-YRN-Spring-2016-Oppland

AER and the YRN are glad to present the agenda of the Spring Youth Regional Network plenary which will take place from Saturday 30 April to Monday 2 May in Lillehammer (Oppland/NO). In a spirit of better integration of the YRN work in the topics of the AER as well as increased contribution to the AER activities, the topics chosen for this Spring plenary mirror greatly the AER work.

First of all, Youth members will be given an introduction to a hot topic in Europe and AER : the circular economy. The potential and issues stemming from this type of economy will be presented and debated. The host region of Oppland will also present its good practices in the field.  The Regional Innovation award 2016 will be presented as the YRN has a seat in the jury and will be kept informed on the developments of the prize.

Most importantly, YRN members will be invited to prepare their contribution to the AER Spring Bureau on revitalizing democracy, Bureau that they will moderate. They will also be responsible for organizing and facilitating a workshop during the 2016 Summer Academy on youth entrepreneurship.

Further discussions will take place in the four YRN committees and we look forward to exchange on the issues brought forward by the members. The topic of migrants has already been put on the table for discussions.

Finally the elections of the new presidium will take place on 2 May, which will thus be the YRN General Assembly. AER is also happy to announce that a member region is enthusiastic about welcoming the Fall YRN plenary meetings, for which the dates will be announced soon.

We look forward to welcoming all our youth members soon. Don’t hesitate to spread the word about this meeting!

‘Better Together’ — How Intercultural integration is making cities and regions more equal and inclusive

'Better Together' — How Intercultural integration is making cities and regions more equal and inclusive
What makes a society sustainable? While shifting to a circular economy and saving the environment are obvious requirements, they do not paint the full picture when it comes to a truly inclusive and equal recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. Real social change demands better multicultural awareness and integration among citizens. This is is why a number of goals in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development aim to guarantee gender and educational equality, build resilient communities, and implement participatory urban planning. SDG 11: a new way to imagine our cities In 2018, 55% of the world population was living in urban areas; by 2050 this figure is expected to rise to 6.5 billion people. It is clear that migration is playing a key role ...

The COVID-19 crisis has reiterated, now more than ever, the urgency for accelerating the actions towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations and the need to safeguard public services. A crucial lesson learned from COVID-19 is that the common challenges we face do not respect borders. The environmental, social, and economic consequences of the pandemic have awakened a fresh impetus for meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. The only way to successfully navigate this journey is by working together. Multi-stakeholder and multi-level partnerships are a critical dimension of the 2030 Agenda and we ...

Social Inclusion in TVET and Skills Development

Social Inclusion in TVET and Skills Development
Education and training play a crucial role in fostering social inclusion providing concrete opportunities for skills development that lead to individuals’ self-affirmation and the creation of diversified learning environments. Yet, rapid and increasing societal changes – as demographic trends, globalisation, and climate change – are bringing about an in-depth transformation of the economy and the labour market that often results in further constraints to inclusion and the societal wellbeing. This becomes even more relevant in the context of the pandemic, which has called for an increasing adoption of digital solutions.   In the context of the Skillnet project co-founded by the Erasmus+ Programme, the Assembly of European Regions organised a webinar to address this key issue. The event was held on ...

AER Climate Debate: Back to Our Future - Regions Leading Europe's Green Recovery
The COVID-19 crisis brought the world to a standstill in 2020. City centres became ghost towns, economic activity slumped, and political priorities fell by the wayside as managing the pandemic became the all-consuming political focus. However, what has not stood still despite the pandemic is the alarming rate that our planet continues to heat up. Unless we align our recovery with our climate targets, another global pandemic will be a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’. The need to make up for lost time to meet these targets – all while ensuring a resilient recovery from the pandemic – presents a once-in-a-generation political challenge. The scale of the task at hand has not been lost on Europe’s leaders, who are determined for ...
