Opportunities for interregional cooperation in Regional Operational Programmes

26 March 2013 – Brussels, Bruxelles-Capitale (B)

Using art.37.6.b to its full potential

The AER workshop was held, in cooperation with INTERACT Programme (IP Valencia), under the title “Opportunities for interregional cooperation in Regional Operational Programmes: Using art.37.6.b to its full potential” in Brussels on 26 of March 2013 from 09:30 until 13:00.

This workshop mainly focused on Article 37.6.b of the current Council Regulation (EC) 1083/2006, as a tool for interregional cooperation within a given Regional Operational Programme.
As the Article 37.6.b clearly states that “At the initiative of the Member State, the operational programmes financed by the ERDF may also contain (…) actions for interregional cooperation with, at least, one regional or local authority of another Member State.” It is obvious that under article 37.6.b an alternative cooperation tool to the very well-known INTERREG exists for regions in order to cooperate and be more efficient concerning the proper use of ERDF funds via Regional Operational Programmes (ROPs).

As it is almost certain that this possibility will still exist in the next programming period, and given that the Regional Operational Programmes are currently being prepared, it has seemed urgent for the AER to better inform its members of the opportunities offered by this article for the future programming period.
