SUMMARY:2021 Innovation Show - How Smart is Your Food?
DESCRIPTION:We live in a world where thanks to technology\, everything is getting “smarter”. \nOur watches monitor our blood-pressure\, our cars can drive themselves\, and since the pandemic\, the high-rise\, multi-story workspaces that dominate our city skylines have been replaced by “virtual” meeting rooms we can carry around in our pockets. \nBut can the food that we eat get “smarter”\, too?  The answer is Yes! \nSmart…food?\nInnovation in food systems is allowing us to develop food that is more nutritious\, more resource-efficient and cheaper to produce. This has huge potential to address many of the great\, global challenges we face. Everything from fighting climate change\, improving global health to promoting gender equality can benefit from advances in food technology and improvements in various levels of the food system. \nWe all have a stake in the future of food innovation. Innovation at all stages of the food value chain is a topic mobilising everyone from scientists and farmers\, to politicians\, NGOs and the private sector. Local and regional authorities have a key role to play here; acting as an interlocutor between stakeholders on the ground\, building partnerships\, fostering collaboration and driving innovation. \nAn innovative show in an innovative format\nThat’s why on 3 March 2021\, the AER\, in partnership with Gelderland Province in the Netherlands is bringing you the 2021 Innovation Show! \nThe 2021 Innovation Show asks the question “How Smart is Your Food?”  This will be a unique\, hybrid event hosted live from Gelderland Studio bringing together policymakers\, entrepreneurs and experts to field ideas\, find synergies and innovate together. \nWhat you can expect\nThis event will be an opportunity to: \n\nShare experiences from regions on the development and impact of smart food and smart food value chains;\nHear what challenges and opportunities stakeholders see in the food innovation field;\nExamine the role of regions and what new roles are emerging;\nDiscuss the social and economic impact of food innovation\, and what this means for policymakers;\nShare perspectives the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on innovation\, especially when it comes to funding.\n\n \n  \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:National Recovery & Resilience Plans - Working Together in Renewed Partnership with Regions
DESCRIPTION:Date: 4 March \nTime: 16:00 – 17:30 CEST \nIn response to the impacts and challenges posed by COVID-19\, the European Commission\, the European Parliament and the Council agreed on a Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). The RRF will offer support for investments and reforms undertaken by Member States to make their economies and societies more sustainable\, resilient and better prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by the green and digital transitions. \nIn order to access the funding\, Member States will have to produce and submit National Recovery Plans by April 2021. \nLocal and regional authorities play a vital role in addressing the short and long-term social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. However\, a consultation run by the European Committee of the Regions and Council of European Municipalities and Regions found that the involvement of municipalities\, cities and regions in the preparation of the national Recovery and Resilience Plans has been limited and rather unstructured. \nTherefore this timely webinar\, brought to you in partnership with the Government of Catalonia\, will: \n\nReflect on the role of regional authorities in shaping and implementing national investment projects and reforms to deliver a fair and sustainable recovery;\nSpur debate on how to more effectively involve local and regional authorities in the design and implementation of National Recovery and Resilience Plans\, and;\n\nThis panel debate will bring together regional authorities and EU representatives\, and we are delighted we can already announce we will be joined by: \n\n\nJohannes Luebking\, Principal Adviser\, Recovery and Resilience Task Force\, European Commission\nDragoș Pîslaru\, Member of the European Parliament and Co-Rapporteur on the Recovery and Resilience Facility\nRosa D’Amato\, Member of the European Parliament\nMichael Murphy\, Chair of the European Committee of the Regions’ Commission for Economic Policy\nMichiel Rijsberman\, Member of the European Committee of the Regions\, Regional Minister of the Province of Flevoland\nElisabet Nebreda\, Secretary for Foreign Action and the EU\,  Government of Catalonia\nAlbert Castellanos [moderator]\, AER Vice President for Sustainability\, Government of Catalonia
