SUMMARY:REGIONerating Europe
DESCRIPTION:The European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs\, implement European Union cohesion policy\, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. It will take place from 7-10 October 2019 in Brussels. \n  \nAER is proud to host a workshop in the context of #EUregions week: \nREGIONerating Europe\nAs a new European Parliament has recently been elected and a new Commission is being appointed\, this workshop will stimulate debate around key challenges facing the EU today and how regions can help to create a more democratic\, inclusive and sustainable Europe. In this session\, regional leaders from across Europe will discuss how regions are tackling these challenges and how to better involve regional authorities and their citizens in EU policy-making and implementation so that EU policies and legislation deliver the best outcomes for EU citizens\, building a Union they trust and support. \nHow to reach out to citizens and foster their engagement\, in particular\, young people\, in the EU democratic process and policy-making? How to make cohesion policy and its role in building a more democratic\, inclusive and sustainable Europe more visible to its citizens? How to more effectively involve local and regional authorities in EU policy-making in order to bring the EU closer to its citizens? These and more will be some of the questions to be explored during the workshop. \n  \n \n*please note you need to sign in with EU Login to register for this and all #EUregionsweek sessions \n  \nDate: 8 October \nTime: 9:15 – 10:45 \nVenue: \nBuilding CoR – VM building\, Room VM 1.\nAddress: Rue Van Maerlant\, 1040 Brussels \nVisit the #EUregionsweek homepage

SUMMARY:Localising Agenda 2030: how regions can help meet the SDGs
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our online debate on “Localising Agenda 2030: how regions can help meet the SDGs”\, on Wednesday 24 June from 14:30 to 16:00 CEST. \nUNDER DISCUSSION \nRegions and cities have been the first responders to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic\, coping with the immediate impact on their health systems\, and enforcing lockdowns while sustaining families and local businesses. In its economic recovery plan\, the European Commission has recognized the instrumental role of regions for a sustainable recovery. Now more than ever\, local and national authorities should join forces towards achieving a more resilient global society. With 2030 a decade away\, regions should take a lead on implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, focusing on ensuring healthy lives and wellbeing\, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and equality within and among countries. \nKey questions include: \n\nWhat is the role of regions in attaining SDGs and how can they make sure that these are not taking the back seat in the current health crisis?\nWhat tools and key partnerships can be identified to strengthen resilience of regions and communities?\nWhat role do regions play in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe aimed at giving European citizens and localities a greater say on how the European Union could better work for them?\n\n\n\n\nSPEAKERS INCLUDE \nAziza Akhmouch\, Head of the OECD Division for Cities\, Urban Policies and Sustainable Development \nMagnus Bertnsson\, President of the Assembly of European Regions (AER) \nRaffaele Cattaneo\, Minister for Environment and Climate of Lombardy (IT); member of the Regions 4 Steering Committee  \nDamià Calvet\, Minister of Territory and sustainability of the Government of Catalonia\, representative of UCLG-Global Taskforce \nWallis Goelen\, Senior Expert\, European Commission Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy \n  \nModeration by Dharmendra Kanani\, Director of Insights\, Friends of Europe\n\n\nThis event is part of a series of events focussing on the Sustainable Development Goals in the run up the Regions2030 Conference in Strasbourg in 2021. \nWe are partnering with Friends of Europe for this event and\, as such\, are offering a limited amount of virtual spaces– on a first come\, first serve basis – allowing you to pose your questions and interact directly with the speaker as in any of our events. You will be visible directly on the screen too. \nAlternatively\, you may also watch the event via livestream and submit your question\, tweeting @europeanregions @FriendsofEurope using #FoEDebate. The best written questions will be asked to the panellists.\n\n\nPlease fill in the registration link with your preferred option below.  \n>> Register for or decline the online event here \n>> Watch the live-stream here \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Intercultural Regions: Improving Access to Services
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to a webinar on the ways in which regions can improve the accessibility of public services for better integration policies and practices with insights from IOM and the Council of Europe. \nRegional and local authorities are at the forefront when it comes to addressing integration needs in practice. The Covid-19 pandemic has strongly tested systems in place\, revealing tremendous needs but also the resourcefulness which exists at local and regional levels. This shows how essential it is to create opportunities for structured and meaningful mutual learning on integration in order to enable regional and local authorities to share good practices and improve policies and practices. \nTo facilitate these exchanges\, AER and the Council of Europe have launched the Intercultural Regions Network\, chaired by Oriol Amorós\, Secretary of Equality\, Migration and Citizenship for the Government of Catalonia. The network provides support for regions to design\, implement and evaluate diversity and inclusion strategies. \nDuring this webinar\, Dominik Zenner\, Senior Migration Health Advisor\, IOM Regional Office for the European Economic Area\, the European Union and NATO\, will share the experience of IOM on improving the accessibility of public services for third-country nationals. He will highlight the importance of access to health services\, an issue which has become particularly salient with the COVID-19 crisis. Irena Guidikova\, Head of Division\, Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Programmes\, Council of Europe will explain how using an intercultural approach to providing public services dramatically changes the quality and efficiency of services. She will share implementation examples from around Europe. \nSpeakers: \n\nOriol Amorós\, Chair of the Intercultural Regions Network\, Secretary of Equality\, Migration and Citizenship for the Government of Catalonia.\nDominik Zenner\, Senior Migration Health Advisor\, IOM Regional Office for the European Economic Area\, the European Union and NATO\nIrena Guidikova\, Head of Division\, Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Programmes\, Council of Europe\nNuria Diez Guardia\, Policy Officer\, European Commission Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs\, Unit C2 – Legal Pathways and Integration.\n\nModerator: Johanna Pacevicius\, Coordinator Policy & Knowledge Transfer AER \n  \nThis webinar is organised in the context of Includ-EU\, an EU-funded project which contributes to building more inclusive and cohesive European societies by enhancing knowledge\, driving innovation and stimulating cooperation between local and regional authorities in the European Union. \nThis event will be recorded. By registering for this event\, you agree to allow the Includ-EU consortium to publish the recording online and to use it for the promotion of the project\, for capacity building and mutual learning. SUMMARY:#EURegionsWeek – Eurodyssey35: Regions on the move
DESCRIPTION:The Assembly of European Regions is pleased to announce one more contribution to the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC). For the first time\, the Eurodyssey programme will be featured in the #EURegionsWeek through our virtual participatory lab\, Eurodyssey35: Regions on the move\, which will take place on 14 October at 9:30 AM. \nIn this session\, policy-makers\, regional officials and young activists will engage one another in an open dialogue on what is at stake for youth development\, and the instrumental role of youth mobility in fostering territorial cohesion and a sense of European identity.  \nMobility is at the core of European integration. For over 25 years the EU has actively promoted the mobility of students\, researchers and citizens to deliver in strategic policy areas: employment\, education and inclusion. Since 1985\, the AER has put regions at the forefront of fair mobility for young people through our Eurodyssey programme. Regional and local authorities have a key part to play in driving youth development and tackling barriers to short-term mobility and longer-term cohesion. \nThrough parallel discussions\, the audience will not only take a deep-dive into the ins and outs of youth mobility but will also challenge the invited storytellers to reflect upon the linkages between fair mobility\, quality employment\, social inclusion and active European citizenship. \n  \nDEADLINE EXTENDED! \n \nClosing date: 7 October 2020 \nSpeakers: \n\nMr Hrvoje Kovač\, Chair of AER Subcommittee on Youth\, Assembly of European Regions (AER).\nMs Jovana Majstorovic\, Board Member\, European Youth Forum.\nMs Floor Van Houdt\, Head of Unit for Youth policy and Volunteer Solidarity\, European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education\, Youth\, Sport and Culture.

DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are pleased to invite you to the webinar “Lifelong learning: upskilling and reskilling of 50+” that aims to bridge the gap between the need for reskilling and upskilling and funding opportunities and programmes offered by the EU. \n  \nThis webinar will highlight regional examples on upskilling and re-skilling and provide insights into the funding mechanisms used. \nIn the context of rapidly changing labour markets\, the upskilling and re-skilling of adults has become a priority. Technological changes and digitalisation require new skills\, while many regions in Europe are faced with both an ageing population and labour and skills shortages. People over 50 oftentimes are not the target group approached for the majority of employers and there is a consistent association between ageing and reduced participation in learning. Effective social inclusion and employment policies\, therefore\, require strong and regularly updated skill foundations. \nDuring this webinar\, Ms Elena Romanini\,  Senior Project Manager\, Skillman\, will explain different programmes and funds on lifelong learning offered by the European Union.  Mr Michael Heaney\, Chief Executive Officer\, Údarás na Gaeltachta will share possibilities in which programmes and projects on re-skilling and upskilling are financed and implemented from the regional perspective. Ms Ana Gale\, Director of Uciliste Studium – Institution for Adult Education will emphasize the importance of the development of the skills in accordance with the industry needs.  She will share the implementation example on cross-border cooperation in the field of upskilling and reskilling adults. \nThe webinar will cover: \n\n10.00 – 10.10 Introduction to the Skillman network and to the webinar (Valentina De Vico\, Skillman Communication Manager)\n10.10 – 10.20 EU fund opportunities for lifelong learning (Elena Romanini\, Skillman Senior Project Manager)\n10.20 – 10.30 Empowering adults to reskill and upskill (Michael Heaney\, Chief Executive Officer\, Údarás na Gaeltachta)\n10.30 – 10.40 Cross-border cooperation in the field of lifelong learning (Ana Gale\, Director\, Uciliste Studium – Institution for Adult Education)\n10.40 – 11.05 Panel discussion and Q&A session\n11.05 – 11.15 Closing remarks\n\n  \nThis webinar is organised in the context of SKILLNET\, an EU-funded project which aims to strengthen the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system’s role and capacity to design high-quality VET programmes tailored to current societal needs through enhanced transnational and cross-sectoral partnerships. \n\n\n\n REWATCH IT NOW! \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Circular Economy: Opportunities and Needs in the Labour Market
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to the webinar ‘Circular Economy: Opportunities and Needs in the Labour Market‘ aimed to share information about how Vocational and Education Training (VET) programmes can support the transition towards a circular economy and exploits its potential for employment and social inclusion.   \nThe circular economy is among the core policy priorities of regional\, national\, and international policy-makers being a major tool to counter negative environmental trends while offering new opportunities for employment and social inclusion. The core pillars of the circular economy – reuse\, repair\, remanufactured\, and recycling – imply a more labour intensive process than the linear economy where resources are wasted or lost. This results in an unparalleled potential for the promotion of employment\, with the expected creation of approximately 700 000 new jobs linked to the circular economy (the so-called circular jobs) by 2030 in the EU (Cambridge Econometrics\, Trinomics and ICF\, 2018).   \nAt the same time\, the transition is a broad process involving an overarching redefinition of the economy as a whole\, as well as requiring the readiness of all economic and sectors in order to be fully realised. To this extent\, this year\, the European Union has adopted a new Circular Economy Action Plan for the achievement of a “cleaner and more competitive Europe in co-creation with economic actors\, consumers\, citizens\, and civil society organisations”. As suggested in the document\, the labour market plays a fundamental role in this process in that if able to anticipate and prepare for the transition\, it can accelerate and maximise the potential of a circular economy. Hence\, both the realisation of a circular economy and the effective uptake of its employment opportunities strongly depend on the readiness of the labour market.   \nAbout the webinar\nThe event will be held within the sixth edition of the Skillman International Forum focused on ‘Redefining the Future of Learning in the Advanced Manufacturing Sector’. Additionally\, it is part of the Skillnet series of 18 webinars designed to bring together experts in different fields linked to vocational education and training (VET) with the purpose of establishing relevant groups of collaboration and partnerships for future EU project proposals.   \nIt will offer regions and stakeholders engaged with the circular economy the opportunity to learn and exchange about how regions\, companies\, and VET organisations can support the transition towards a circular economy and exploit its employment potential by fostering the needed skills in the workforce.    \nIn this context\, the webinar aims to:  \n\nProvide information about what are the skills needed in a circular economy with particular regard to the advanced manufacturing sector.\nOffer the possibility to learn from\, and exchange with\, experts about how VET can support the circular economy transition by developing new curricula tailored to skill and upskill the ‘circular workforce‘.\nCreate a space for debate and network for experts in the field in order to establish relevant partnerships that can be applied within future EU funding opportunities.\n\nHow to join the webinar?\nOnly one registration is given for all the events within the Skillman International Forum (SIF). Hence\, to join the event\, you have to register to Skillman International Forum and participants will be re-directed from the plenary (main room) to the various sessions in the course the event through break-out rooms.   \nIf you cannot attend the whole SIF\, you may access the event at least 15 minutes before the beginning of the webinar “Circular Economy: Opportunities and Needs in the Labour Market” (starting time 15:30) so that you can be re-directed to the session. \n \n\n\n \n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n \n\nThis webinar is organised in the context of SKILLNET\, an EU-funded project which aims to strengthen the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system’s role and capacity to design high-quality VET programmes tailored to current societal needs through enhanced transnational and cross-sectoral partnerships.

SUMMARY:New mobility services: Anticipating Skills and Job Roles
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to the webinar “New mobility services: Anticipating skills and job roles” that aims to bridge the gap between the skills and job roles needed for the new mobility services sector and the workforce. \nNew mobility services are offering solutions to today’s growing challenges in terms of congestion\, lack of space\, growing population\, air quality\, noise\, social inclusion\, health\, economic development\, and the creation of jobs. These solutions require skilled and adaptable individuals who are able to drive and support change. However\, there is a growing skills shortage in the mobility services sector which could seriously delay the development of the services and hurt customers’ expectations. Thus it is required to look into new skills for the future workforce but also opportunities realized through reskilling the workforce. \nThe webinar will highlight regional examples on the integration of new mobility services and the development of skills and job roles needed in the sector. In this context\, it aims to: \n\nHighlight the relevance of EU funding opportunities and European cooperation in bridging the skills’ gap in the new mobility services sector\nShare good practices about how regions and local companies can foster the relevant skills in the population\nBoost a network of cross-sectoral experts interested in the new mobility services that can be applied for future EU funding opportunities.\n\nHow to join the webinar?\nOnly one registration is given for all the events within the Skillman International Forum (SIF). \n  \n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n  \n\nThis webinar is organised in the context of SKILLNET\, an EU-funded project which aims to strengthen the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system’s role and capacity to design high-quality VET programmes tailored to current societal needs through enhanced transnational and cross-sectoral partnerships.
