Setting the scene
Transport is a broad topic of concerns for AER's member regions. Supporting the work of the Working Group on Transports and Mobility, which has reflected on smart green and integrated transport systems but also on good and sustainable practices, the AER has joined the REFIT project, led by VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmBH (DE).
Description of the action
The REFIT project, under the Horizon 2020 Programme, aims at improving the regulative framework to make it consistent with the development of new forms of mobility, including shared used mobility, having in mind to safeguard the interest
of the users and to attend societal goals. Thereby, the project shall contribute to the EU's better regulation agenda.
The main result will be the creation of a user-friendly governance tool facilitating regulatory processes to support the deployment of innovative transport technologies and services in the EU while carefully considering concerns and expectations of citizens and users.
Within this project, AER will lead the Working Package 6 "Network building and policy impact" aimed to build a network of various stakeholders, from regional politicians to entrepreneurs. This network will give input to the project and suggestions for the co-creation and piloting of the transport governance tool, thanks to discussions and exchanges of ideas.
Why is this action important for regions?
Transport is a challenge for regions: these are infrastructures to bring people and jobs, but also to face pollution, noise, traffic-jam. New possibilities sometimes have to deal with an inconsistent legislative frameworks and the REFIT project will provide regions with advices and solutions.
Within AER, the project will create synergies with the Working Group on Transports and Mobility, thanks, on one side, to the participation of its Chairman in the Stakeholder Forum. On the other side, synergies will be performed with the New Mobility Services Initiative of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Cluster of the European Innovation Partnership on Sustainable Cities and Communities.
